Advice to keep in mind when you are interested in interior design education

When it comes to deciding what sort of extra education you want to consume, there is a divide between doing something interesting and doing something that could provide a lot of tangible and monetary value to your life. Normally the best route to take is doing something that ticks both of these boxes.

Whether you want to get into interior designing for your own interests, or you are interested in starting a new business, there are a few things you need to know beforehand to see if you will be suited for it. If you acquire these skills, they will be very useful over time as you can even decorate and design your own home and those homes of friends and family. Even Juan Pablo Molyneux had to start from somewhere.

Advice to keep in mind when you are interested in interior design education

Without further ado, here is some advice that will help you along the way when you are starting out with interior design.

Make sure you start with something meaningful in mind

When you are just starting out with interior design, the first project that you work on should mean a lot to you and have some sort of significance in your life. People perform so much better when they are working with something that they are passionate for and the same can be said for interior design.

This could be designing a certain fabric, picture or even a design on your glassware. Whatever the case may be, make sure that you enjoy it. This initial piece of work that is special will set the tone for the rest of the work that you do in that particular project.

Always be consistent

When you are starting off with interior design, it can be easy to start to overcomplicate things and add too many feature and designs to one single area. Instead, focus on keeping your design consistent across the board when dealing with a certain room or area. This will add consistency and elegance at the same time as you are having a universal look. The style should be consistent no matter if it is contemporary, modern or traditional. A mixture of styles will often look too disjointed and will not work out well for you.

Don’t be hesitant to ask for help

When you are starting out with interior design, it can be quiet a daunting prospect as you are working with people’s homes and areas that they cherish dearly. Even the most experienced of interior designers are going to ask questions to ensure that they are on the right track and that the client is going to be happy with the end product.

Getting advice will allow you to avoid potentially costly mistakes as you don’t want to have the whole room completed before you realise that it is not right and the whole thing needs to be done again.

As an interior designer, it is also good to build up a number of contacts from different trades who can help you with certain tricky parts of a job.
