You’re on this site because you like to use television as a teaching tool. So, if you are endeavoring to educate your young ones about the state of Maryland, we are prepared to assist you. There are a number of shows on TV set in that state. We will provide you with that list here. Additionally, we would like to give you some facts for your kids’ Maryland-focused education.

Teaching Your Kids about Maryland

Perhaps you reside in Maryland. If that’s the case, you could always teach your kids about Maryland medical malpractice. The lawyers at that site are devoted to helping families who have experienced birth injuries or birth related disabilities. This could be a great introduction to the serious issues attached to disabilities. And, if that’s the route you take, maybe ER’s Carrie Weaver character would be beneficial. However, if you want to stick to the Maryland focus, keep reading.

Shows Based out of Maryland

The TV shows on this list are based out of Maryland. If you choose to watch them with your children, you could always create some sort of scavenger hunt. Get the kids to look for popular landmarks, brands, or other establishments and locales. That would make quite a geography lesson. Or, if there are phrases that are popular to the area, that might be another good thing to seek out. Regardless, we are sure you can find something of value in these shows:

  • Bones (read more)
  • Chesapeake Shores
  • Crisis
  • The Following
  • Joan of Arcadia
  • The Lone Gunmen
  • Men of Annapolis
  • NCIS
  • The Real Housewives of Potomac
  • Runaway
  • Young Americans

Trivia to Keep the Kids Interested

Now that you have a list of shows to use in your educational endeavors, you might want to employ trivia to keep the kids interested. Let’s face it, geography and state facts can be a boring topic. Even when you live in the state you are learning about it can be a dull lesson. Although, maybe some cool malpractice cases within that area might spark interest. You can use this one if you are so inclined. Otherwise, just try some of these trivia tidbits:

  • The US’ first public school was established in Maryland.
  • The only commercial sailing fleet is found there.
  • Francis Scott Key, author of the national anthem, watched the attack on Baltimore Harbor in 1814.
  • Maryland donated a good deal of its land to create Washington DC.
  • The Cannonball House is the only home that was damaged in the British attack back in the 1800s. That is thanks to people lighting tree tops and masts to thwart Britain’s ability to accurately aim their canons.
  • The Workmen’s compensation law got its start in 1902 in Maryland.
  • Greenbelt is the first city to be strategically planned.
  • Tidal shorelines in Maryland are 5000 miles long.
  • The only open railroad bridge, composed of cast and wrought iron in the world, is located within the state. Check this
  • Boys under ten are forbidden to wear lipstick.
  • All those who live past the age of 90 have to publically apologize for living another year.
  • Public displays of affection cannot last more than one second unless you want to break the law.
  • Mistreating oysters in Maryland is also illegal.

Some of those trivia pieces should get your kids’ attention. Maybe the shows listed will include Greenbelt, or the open railroad bridge. Keep your eyes peeled.

Using TV to Teach Your Kids about the Legal System

When it comes to employing TV as an educational tool, it can seem a farfetched endeavor. However, there are some shows available that will truly teach your kids life lessons. And, when learning about the legal system is something your child has expressed an interest in, you can use TV to teach him/her the ropes. Whether the goal is to become a lawyer, or a cop, the TV shows on this list will help you teach your child about the way law is enforced and supported.

injury lawyer

It really won’t matter where your child developed an interest in the legal system. Perhaps he/she went with you to visit an injury lawyer. Maybe it was that car accident in Maryland that presented your young one with his/her first tastes of the legal system.  And, perchance the well-groomed litigators on your side helped instill a desire to come to the aid of other injury victims. Whatever the case may be, your son or daughter can learn a lot about law from the shows on our list.

Top 10 Legal Shows on TV

Some of these shows have been on TV for extensive periods of time. No doubt their long lasting play time is demonstrative of the high levels of facts portrayed by the lens. These top 10 legal shows on TV will help teach your children about the ways the system works:

  1. Law & Order– This is the longest lasting criminal law show on TV. It lasted 20 years! It was filmed and set in NYC.
  2. Boston Legal- This was a legal drama with a comedic side. It was a spinoff from The Practice. It depicted serious courtroom cases while adding much needed humor. Learn more.
  3. The Practice- Focused on high profile cases, this show lasted 8 seasons. There was a constant battle between personal and legal ethics.
  4. Matlock– This is an old school legal drama that is probably more kid friendly than many others on this list. Andy Griffith plays a costly Atlanta based defense attorney. This show was also geared toward high profile criminal cases. Read more.
  5. JAG- The difference in this show, was its military basis. It lasted ten seasons. The lawyers in the show were all supposed to be former military personnel investigating military related crimes.
  6. Ally McBeal– Probably the least educational show on our list, Ally McBeal was a Boston based attorney with a penchant for slapstick humor and odd fantasies.
  7. A. Law– The focus of this show took it into very controversial territory including episodes on abortion, AIDS, gay rights, racism, and domestic violence. These were hot topics during the years in which the show was popular.
  8. Murder One– This show didn’t last long, and that’s probably due to its unique design. It focused on one trial throughout the entire first season. That probably drug things out a little too far.
  9. Perry Mason– Even older than Matlock, this show was based on mystery novels by Erle Stanley Gardner. It actually started off as a 15 minute show on the radio before making it big on the TV screen.
  10. The Defenders– Controversial and high-profile cases are assigned to this father and son defense team. It was on in the 60s, but won a large amount of praise for its devotion to topics like abortion, racism, religion, and civil rights. For a more in depth explanation click this.

We would recommend the shows at number 4, 9 and 10 as the best for kid friendliness. Unfortunately, the censorship laws are so lax these days that the other shows might expose your children to less than desirable language or images.

Safest Ways to Transport Kids When Your Hands Are Tied Up

As a parent you want to always be there for your kids.  You want to take them to each special sports event, to each extra class they have and you want to have a blast with them.  You want to see them reach each one of their mile stones and you want to spend as much time as possible with them.  But you simply cannot be there all the time.  You also have work and other obligations in your life which can quickly tie up your hands.  And just because your hands are tied up doesn’t mean your kids have to be stuck at home or that they have to skip on some important events, fun or classes.  Here are some great ways to transport your children safely;

Ask relatives or friends

A trusted family member or friend can help you out in an emergency.  But family isn’t always the best way to go.  Just because someone is a good person does not mean that they have the best driving skills.  It also does not mean that they are always available to transport your kids or that they have the right safety gear for your kids. Friends and family is a good way to go… but not necessarily the best.

Safest Ways to Transport Kids When Your Hands Are Tied Up

Let them travel by plane

Airlines have terrific procedures in place for transporting children who fly alone.  Lots of kids are sent off for grandparent visits or on trips when their parents cannot find the time to accompany them.  The airlines will take special care of your child and will ensure he or she is safely picked up by a responsible and pre-arranged adult.  That way your child is ultimately safe even when you aren’t there with them.

Why LAX car service is the best choice

LAX Car Service is a professional transportation company that you can hire for luxury transportation.  You can get a Private Black Town Car at LAX with a professional chauffeur to take your child anywhere he or she may need to go.  The car service is a must because;

Safety – LAX Car Service is the safest way to go.  All of their chauffeurs have a minimum of four years driving experience and all of the vehicles are luxury vehicles which means your child will never be at risk of a breakdown and will never get lost and the chances of an accident is reduced.

Style – All of the vehicles at this luxury transport company are stylish.  Your child will be cared for well and will look completely stylish when traveling.

Comfort – The vehicles are ultimately comfortable so your child will be relaxed even though mom and dad are not nearby.

Reliability – This professional company is ultimately reliable and safe.  They take great pride in their punctuality and they will go the extra mile to ensure your child is delivered to his or her destination as safely and securely as possible.

Private – The vehicles are ultimately private.  No one will ever know that your child is being transported so he or she won’t be targeted for kidnappings or worse.
